Wonderful Visitors
Hello everyone, for today’s blog I wanted to write about my favourite places to visit in Toronto but I think that it would be better to talk about what happened this week.
My parents came to visit in an almost spontaneous way. I hope you enjoy today’s blog post.
Out of the blue
This year has been a weird year for me, a lot of great things had happened and also some bad things. One of the bad things is that I had to go to Chile for my granddad funeral almost at the end of my fifth college semester. When something like that happened a lot of plans change completely, for example, my parents told me that they wouldn’t be able to visit me for my birthday in Toronto like they usually do, but they told me to meet them in Atlanta in my brother’s house not long ago.
I was ok to do that, I love visiting my brother and my little nieces, so when we say goodbye it was like see you back in Chile for the holidays (Christmas and new year’s).
To my surprise three weeks ago, my mum told me “we are going to Toronto for a week.” I was so surprised that the only thing that I asked was “why?”. She told me that my father had some business meetings in the states not far from Toronto, so she was going to come alone and my dad was going to come later for a weekend.
On previous visits I had everything plan day by day, but this time I had no idea where to take my mum, so like she loves walking around the city, I been taking her from the hotel to different parts over lunch or dinner, and I showed her a different side of the city, a more local and less touristic one. To the places that most tourists don’t visit, most tourist goes to the malls, to the aquarium, to the CN tower, places that she has already been.
We also had dinners with people that I consider my Canadian family. So it’s has been very nice. I took advantage of the fact that I only go to college twice a week, so I had a lot of time to spend with my mum and my sister.
What’s next on the agenda?
My dad is arriving tomorrow, I don’t know what we’ll do tomorrow since he must be tired of all the travelling from one city to the other in the states, but what I have planned is to take him to my favourite burger place located in Kensington market and on Saturday take him, my mum and my sister to watch a hockey game, Toronto Maple Leaf vs Detroit Red Wings.
I’ve been in Canada for over 3 years and I’ve never seen a hockey game. I saw a baseball one but only because I was working as a brand ambassador for a bubble gum company inside the stadium. I’m not a sports fan, but my father is and I think that it might be a great experience to watch a hockey game at least once as hockey, which is not a popular sport in my home country. I’m looking forward to it.
How do I feel about it?
As you may realize so far, my family and friends mean everything to me, even though I talk with my parents almost every night, having them here with me it’s a completely different thing to be with them. I love it, it’s one of the few times where I connect my two worlds, my life back home and my life in Toronto. It refills my energy to keep moving forward. I will be sad to say goodbye once again when they depart, but it is worth it, every laugh, every lunch, every dinner, every single moment has been remarkable.
I’m very lucky to have them and to have the means to see them once or twice a year. They love Toronto and they feel relief when they see me happy in here and now they have two children living here since my sister is living here too.
The only “bad” thing is that my mum always complains about my room organization. When she sees my room is like she is stepping into a garbage can, her look makes me laugh so much, It’s not disorganized it’s only my own order, I may have clothes on the floor but everything has its own place 😅.
Anyways, in this blog post, I wanted to share something more personal with you guys, something that is currently happening.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this short post and I hope you’ve got to know me and my family a little bit more, have a great weekend and write you next time 🙂
